A Tradition of Education

Since 1995, the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office has been committed to teaching the community safe firearm handling. Under Sheriff Larry Amerson's initiative, this program began and has thrived throughout the years. Sheriff Matthew Wade continues this legacy, eagerly anticipating each quarterly class and the opportunity to share knowledge with citizens.

Course Highlights

During this two-hour course, we will cover essential topics related to firearm ownership and safety. From understanding gun laws to concealed carry requirements, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of their legal responsibilities. Proper storage, transportation, and gun safety protocols will be emphasized to ensure everyone's well-being. Additionally, we will extensively address the appropriate circumstances for firearm use, particularly for self-defense purposes.

Range Training Experience

Successful completion of the class grants students an exclusive invitation to the Calhoun County shooting range on Saturday for live fire training. Our certified firearms instructors will provide personalized one-on-one training, teaching proper handling, aiming, and firing techniques. Remember, practice is crucial to maintaining and improving your shooting skills. Sheriff Wade shares his personal preference for practicing at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park.
